Los Angeles and Tucson Spring Tour '04
No offense to our Bay Area bike-riding brethren, but when it comes
to tricking out their bikes, riders here are primarily concerned with
practical matters: weight, durability, and theft deterence.
Now, on the other hand, the Southern California rider thinks mainly
about looks, image, and style.
In the Spring of 2004, we heeded the call for our sauve counterparts
and ventured south to share our unique flavor with the SoCal bike
scene.

Ron (left) was our host on a fantastic party ride from Newport Beach
to Huntington Beach. Ron works for Phat
Cycles, makers of some very stylish, ready-to-ride choppers and
cruisers. We played a few of Ron's groovy music compilations on the
Soul Cycle and hooked up with several groups of midnight cruisers
who would join us for a few songs and then peel off.
Ron's garage is filled with about 25 bikes, all shiny and all in
tip top riding shape. There are so many apehangers, Dianne Fossey
would faint at the sight. This photo shows only half of the bikes!
Ron's Mercedes stays outside.

After three hard days of meeting the public
at the Los Angeles Bike Show,
we headed East to Tucson for the Tucson bike swap.

Many thanks to Ron, Geddis, Russ, Elena, Ruben,
David, Edy, Lionel, and to our new SoCal dealers, San Diego's Bernies
Bicycle Shop and Rusty Spokes, Newport Beach's Let it Roll Bike Shop,
and LA's Wild About Scooters.
